The app or clockface does not respond to settings from the phone

This is a known firmware issue. Will be solved in time by Fitbit. Workaround is to close and restart the app. For a clockface, swipe to a Fitbit app, start and close it, and return to the clockface.
If this does not help, reset your Ionic (you will not lose data).
Reset your Ionic is done by holding the back and down buttons simultaneously. Hold them until (after the screen goes black) the Fitbit logo shows. Your device will restart and all will work again.
